In May of 2018, my mom, mamaw, sister, and I visited Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Illinois. Cahokia was the largest Mississippian Amerindian city north of Mexico. While there, we visited the mounds and a museum filled with interesting artifacts and exhibits.
When entering Cahokia, the first thing visitors see are the mounds. Monks mound is the biggest.
Different shaped mounds were used for different purposes. The museum has exhibits that explain how each mound was built and used.
My favorite museum exhibits were the life reconstructions and artifacts.
Ceramic Pottery
Lithics
Archaeology
